The Urgency of the Gospel
Opening July, the month of bold witness and evangelism (the evidence of the gospel), the General Overseer preaches on the urgency of the gospel. The gospel is the power of God to salvation (Romans 1:16), and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) is every believer’s job, not only the pastors’. It is urgent because time is short and life is fragile, because eternity is real, because Jesus is coming soon, and because the harvest is ready. Like firefighters at a burning house, or a lifeboat beside a sinking ship, the church must act quickly. He urges patient friendship, prayer and meeting people at their point of need. Each member writes down the name of one person to pray for until they come to Christ (2 Peter 3:9), and the church prays for boldness and for their families.
